Board approves first step in adding sidewalk near nursing home

URBANA, Ill (WAND) - The Champaign County Board has approved the first step in building a sidewalk for those walking to the Champaign County Nursing Home and Brookens Administrative Center.

The News Gazette reports that back in May the board agreed to sell the nursing home to Extended Care Clinical LLC and Altitude Health Services, Inc. for $11 million.

But, to have the home available for sale, the City of Urbana needed to approve a plat revision. That included a request from the city that the county build a sidewalk along Art Bartell Rd. between Lierman Ave. and East Main St.

The county agreed.

The facilities committee voted to recommend hiring a civil engineer/architect to plan the sidewalk at a meeting Tuesday.

The county has until July 27, 2020, to complete construction. It is estimated to cost $300,000.
