CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - A 12-year-old's Holocaust themed screenplay called "A Star" will be among those made into short films by local filmmakers.

The Champaign-Urbana Film Society, Champaign Movie Makers and Champaign-Urbana Design Organization present the Pens to Lens program for East Central Illinois K-12 students.

The News Gazette reports 12-year-old Max Libman wrote "A Star" about a Jewish family living in Nazi Germany. He based it on his great-grandmother's experience.

Max attends Countryside School.

His film will be in black and white, and German is spoken.

The gala showings are at 2 and 6 p.m. Saturday at the Virginia Theatre.
