Emergency responders across IL to discuss mass shooting responses


SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Close to 1,000 emergency responders from across the state are in Springfield for the Illinois Emergency Management Agency's Training Summit this week.

The event will be providing discussions and training into handling mass shooting events.

Opening ceremonies for the week will be Tuesday at 1 p.m.

Also Tuesday, Caleb Cage, chief of Nevada's Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security Advisory, will be speaking.  He will discuss the lessons learned from the largest mass shooting in U.S. history, the Las Vegas shooting, and the steps taken to improve Nevada's response.

Major General Richard Hayes of the Illinois National Guard will talk about threats to our nation's critical infrastructure and goals to improve cybersecurity information sharing.
