Coroner: Men died from drowning on Lake Springfield


SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – Investigators say drowning was the cause of death for two boaters who disappeared on Lake Springfield.

Firefighters helped recover the bodies of 51-year-old Peter Sidener and 60-year-old Michael Daugherty from the water on Sunday and Monday. They men went missing on Sunday afternoon.

Crews searched just south of the CWLP grounds for their bodies.

Sangamon County Coroner Cinda Edwards released an autopsy report on Wednesday afternoon. She says preliminary reports showed drowning as the cause of death, but added a final determination will require histology and toxicology reports, which are expected to take about four weeks.

Foul play is not suspected.
