DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – Police say a man stole a woman’s rental car at gunpoint in her own home.

A sworn statement says that on Sept. 7, Jechelle Hendrix, 30, broke into the home, located in the 2200 block of E. Mound Road, through a window and woke her up in bed. Police say he pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at her head before ordering her to get up. They say he pulled her hair and hit her in the back of the head with the gun.

Police say he then forced her to give him keys to a rented 2018 Chevrolet Impala – which belonged to Hertz – at gunpoint.

The statement says officers recovered a loaded handgun from the scene. They arrested Hendrix on Monday.

Hendrix is charged with home invasion, possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, motor vehicle theft and domestic battery. His bond is set at $500,000 in Macon County.

Hendrix has two convictions on his record for felony resisting a peace officer and driving with a revoked license.
