UofI System enrollment up almost 3 percent

(WAND) - The U of I System enrollment has grown to nearly 85,600.

Enrollment is up almost three percent.

It has set a record high for the sixth year in a row.

Combined enrollment at the system's universities in Urbana-Champaign, Chicago and Springfield grew to 85,597 from 83,321 a year ago.

Officials credit the numbers to efforts made in promoting affordability and academic excellence.

This fall, tuition for in-state freshmen was frozen for the fourth year in a row.

The U of I System has also increased financial aid from about $84 million to more than $219 million over the last ten years.
