CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) – Prosecutors say police found a weapon on a convicted felon in Champaign.

The News-Gazette reports a traffic stop at about 7:40 p.m. Monday on the west side of town led to the arrest of 23-year-old Kewon Bonner. Assistant State’s Attorney Dan Clifton says officers found a loaded handgun magazine and a 9 mm handgun in the car, along with a bottle of oxycodone in the trunk.

Clifton also says Bonner had a suspended driver’s license.

The paper reports Bonner has Champaign and Cook County convictions on his record for aggravated unlawful use of weapons, along with a Cook County driving under suspension conviction. He is not permitted to carry a weapon as a result and could face up to 30 years behind bars for this charge if he’s found guilty.

Bonner has a bond set at $50,000 and will be in court for a probable cause hearing on Sept. 25.
