Deputy hit while investigating crash in Morgan County


MORGAN COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) - Illinois State Police are investigating after a deputy was struck while investigating a crash on Thursday morning. 

According to the preliminary investigation, a truck pulling a trailer was traveling eastbound on Interstate 72 at mile post 77. A Nissan passenger car was also traveling eastbound and began to slow for a previous crash. The driver of the truck failed to slowdown and struck the Nissan. 

The Nissan then struck an unoccupied Secretary of State police vehicle. A Morgan County Deputy, who was standing on the shoulder working on the previous crash was struck by the unoccupied police car. 

ISP said the deputy was transported to Memorial Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the Nissan was transported to Passavant Area Hospital for minor injuries.
