U of I releases cost of Obama's visit to campus

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) – The numbers are in. It cost the University of Illinois around $53,200 to bring former President Barak Obama to campus.

Some of the costs were cover by Obama himself. However, much of the price tag was covered internally. It was paid for by the UI President’s office and the Institute for Government and Public Affairs.

According to the News-Gazette, none of the money came from tuition dollars. Obama paid about $12,500 of the auditorium costs.

Obama was in Champaign on Friday to receive the Paul H. Douglas Award for Ethics in Government.
