DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) – A woman who shot and killed a man in a parking lot will spend decades in prison.

A judge sentenced 39-year-old Lakeisha Cunningham to 60 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after she shot Justin Jones, 25, at Netta's Grocery (1618 E. Fairchild St.). She came to the scene on April 27, 2017, after her adult children began arguing with Jones about a car accident. He had asked them to help with car repairs.

One of Cunningham’s children came to get her before she got out of her car and fired a gun, then ran from the scene. Police arrested her on May 17, 2017.

A jury found her guilty of first-degree murder on March 22, 2018, after less than an hour of deliberations. She must serve the entirety of the 60-year sentence as well as three years of mandatory supervised release.
