Elbow leaves crater in county leader's windshield

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – A man smashed a Sangamon County leader’s car windshield hours after his release from jail, police say.

Officers tell WAND-TV they arrested 56-year-old Terry Reid after 4:30 a.m. Tuesday for criminal trespassing. At around noon, they say he used his elbow to leave a crater in a windshield belonging to Sangamon County Treasurer Tom Cavanagh.

The station learned the car in question is a 2014 Cadillac XTS.

Investigators say the damage done to the car was random and didn’t have anything to do with Cavanagh. The treasurer began work to repair the windshield Wednesday.

Reid was in court Wednesday and faces a charge of criminal damage to property.

NOTE: WAND-TV placed a call requesting Reid's picture. Police told the station it would have to call back Thursday to get it.
