New aquifer-fed water system coming to Macoupin and Jersey counties

(WAND) - Macoupin and Jersey counties are giving residents cleaner water.

County officials announced they have been awarded a $66 million package in federal funds.

Those funds will be used to construct an aquifer-fed system.

It will supply areas with cleaner, more reliable water supply.

The new system will be operated by the Illinois Alluvial Regional Water Company.

It will feature a new water treatment plant and 47 miles of pipe to supply water to more than 27,000 customers.
