DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – Decatur Public Schools say at least one student, security guards and a school resource officer were involved in an “altercation” Thursday.

A DPS statement say district leaders are aware of something that happened between those groups on Thursday afternoon at MacArthur High School. The statement did not specify any other details, and Decatur police told WAND-TV they were unaware of anything happening at the school.

“Following all normal investigation procedures, appropriate student disciplinary actions will be taken according to policy established in the District’s Student Code of Conduct and Parent Handbook,” DPS leaders said.

The district cited “efforts to protect student confidentiality” when it declined to say more.

“As always, safety for all students and staff is the utmost priority at Decatur Public Schools,” the statement added.
