DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – A barn is considered a total loss after flames engulfed it late Thursday.

Firefighters came to an address in the 3000 block of South Long Creek Road, where they found the structure fully on fire. It took crews about an hour to fully put it out.

There were no people injured, but the building’s contents are gone for good.

“Barns are usually full of materials – fuel, machinery, tractors and stuff like that,” said Long Creek Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Stephen Webb. “So that’s just extra fire load from the inside.”

Investigators are working to learn more about a cause and how much damage the fire caused financially.

Crews from South Wheatland, Argenta, Cerro Gordo, Decatur and Mount Zion helped respond to the fire.
