BUBBLE WATCH

CLASS 1A

Fighting for Guaranteed Spot Entering Friday

Cerro Gordo-Bement (5-3)
Friday update: Broncos lose 13-7 to Villa Grove-Heritage but have a good chance at making the field because they entered Friday with 37 playoff points.

Central A&M (5-3)
Friday update: Raiders beat SOV 48-0, avoiding a possible 5-4 snub (34 points entering Friday) and clinching a playoff spot with a sixth win.

Casey-Westfield (5-3)
Friday update: Red Hill drops Casey-Westfield to 5-4, putting C-W firmly on the borderline thanks to their precarious 32 playoff points entering Friday.

Fighting for Eligibility Entering Friday

Tri-County (4-4)
Friday update: Tri-County needed a win over Arcola and a prayer to get in on playoff points, but the Purple Riders pulled the Titans off the bubble with an emphatic 44-12 win.

CLASS 2A

Fighting for Guaranteed Spot Entering Friday

Pleasant Plains (5-3)
Friday update: The Cardinals were just shy of the projected 36/37-point threshold entering Friday, so Friday's 62-18 win over Pittsfield saved them from a whole lot of anxiety leading up to Saturday night.

Georgetown-Ridge Farm (5-3)
Friday update: GRF wins 34-6 over Westville, securing an automatic playoff berth.

Fighting for Eligibility Entering Friday

Oakwood (4-4)
Friday update: The Comets pulled off maybe the upset of the night, knocking off 6-2 Salt Fork to keep their playoff hopes alive. With 38 playoff points entering Friday, the Comets should be a lock at 5-4.

Villa Grove-Heritage (4-4)
Friday update: The Blue Devils beat a motivated Cerro Gordo-Bement (5-3) team on the road 13-7 and are likely in on playoff points with 38 entering Friday.

Routt (4-4)
Friday update: With a 41-7 win over 4-4 Winchester on the road, the Rockets (5-4, 37+ playoff points) will be biting their nails until the Selection Saturday show but should feel confident.

Auburn (4-4)
Friday update: No shame in losing 45-13 to the No. 1 team in the state in Class 2A, Maroa-Forsyth.

Watseka (4-4)
Friday update: Bubble celebration ensues in Watseka after a 32-23 win over Iroquois West. Now the waiting begins at 5-4. Steve Soucie of The Herald-News has the Warriors as his very last team in the field in the state.

LSA (4-4) (Bumping up to Class 2A after adding Mt. Pulaski to LSA-Decatur Christian co-op)
Friday update: The Lions rolled over winless Martinsville 48-7 to get a fifth win, but will be squarely on the bubble in terms of playoff points.

Nokomis (4-4)
Friday update: A 49-28 win over Pawnee might give Nokomis a fifth win, but it looks like it won't be enough thanks to a Class 2A-worst 29 playoff points entering Friday.

CLASS 3A

Fighting For Guaranteed Spot Entering Friday

St. Joseph-Ogden (5-3)
Friday update: A 50-7 loss and 35 playoff points entering Friday means it'll be a long wait for Spartan Nation.

Newton (5-3)
Friday update: The Eagles locked up a playoff spot with a 44-13 win over Marshall.

Fighting for Eligibility Entering Friday

St. Thomas More (4-4)
Thursday Outlook: This could be a heart breaker. The Sabers might be one point shy of the 37-point projected threshold, which would be a tragic way to come crashing down after the high of upsetting 6-2 Prairie Central.
Friday update: It was a heartbreaker, but not for the above reason. The Sabers nearly pulled off the upset but fell 44-42 to Prairie Central. Will playoff points be enough to get STM in?

CLASS 4A

Fighting For Guaranteed Spot Entering Friday

Clinton (5-3)
Friday update: The Maroons couldn't seal up a guaranteed spot, losing 21-14. Early projections show they might be two playoff points shy of a berth.

Fighting for Eligibility Entering Friday

None

CLASS 5A

Fighting For Guaranteed Spot Entering Friday

Mattoon (5-3)
Friday update: Mattoon is back in the playoffs for the first time since 2015. A huge 26-23 win over 6-2 Marion seals the Green Wave's fate.

Central (5-3)
Friday update: Playoff points weren't quite there for the Maroons, who took matters into their own hands and beat Manual 49-14 to seal a spot.

Mt. Zion (5-3)
Friday update: It needed to come from a sixth win, and that's exactly what Patrick Etherton's squad did. The Braves are headed to the playoffs after a 19-15 win at Triad.

Fighting for Eligibility Entering Friday

None

CLASS 6A

Fighting For Guaranteed Spot Entering Friday

Springfield High (5-3)
Friday update: The Senators' fate would have been precarious at 5-4, so beating Jacksonville 41-10 was extra sweet. Springfield High is headed to the playoffs.

Fighting for Eligibility Entering Friday

Danville (4-4)
Friday update: This one stings. The Vikings were likely in with a win but fell 55-22 on the road at Peoria Notre Dame, ending their strong hopes of earning a berth at 5-4.
