EAST PEORIA -- What's not to love?

They're expressive. Physical. Humble. Creative. They have a passionate 23-year-old head coach. They're 21-2-3.

Now for the first time in the history of St. Teresa High School, the soccer Bulldogs are State-bound.

On Tuesday at the EastSide Complex in East Peoria, Luichi Caceres and Edgar Onate each scored second half goals and outlasted Earlville for a 2-0 win in the Class 1A super-sectional. It was a physical match, one in which play had to be stopped while officials sorted out the aftermath of an Earlville player shoving an opponent.

Up next for the Bulldogs is a 7 p.m. state semifinal matchup with Quincy Notre Dame on Friday. The Class 1A state tournament, which also features St. Edward (Elgin) and Soto (part of the Acero network in Chicago), will take place at the EastSide Center in East Peoria.
