Springfield fire crews battle early morning blaze


SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – A fire broke out in Springfield early Tuesday morning.

At around 4:30 a.m., Springfield fire officials were called to the 2500 block of West Monroe for an apartment fire.

Fire officials arrived to find the large building engulfed with heavy fire.

The flames have been extinguished, and the Red Cross is assisting several occupants of the apartment building who were displaced.

There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
