New Sangamon County State's Attorney sworn in


SPRINGFIELD, IL (WAND) - Sangamon County has a new State's Attorney, this after the John Milhiser resigned. Milhiser looks to become the US Attorney for the Central District of Illinois. Dan Wright was nominated by a county board chairman and was sworn in. This means Wright's office is in charge of prosecuting anyone who breaks the law in Sangamon county. 

Wright has worked with Milhiser before, in 2016. In 2017, he was promoted to First Assistant State's Attorney. One of the board members said Wright "demonstrates judgment to handle tough cases." In a statement, the county board chairman Andy Van Meter said in part: 

"We will all sleep well with Dan Wright protecting us." 

Wright's been described as "tough but fair". He told WAND he will do his best everyday work for the citizens of Sangamon County. He added his job requires him to be honest and fair for all people and work hard.  

"[He will] make sure that Sangamon County is a safe place to live," Wright said. 

Wright said his top priority is to keep people who commit crimes accountable. 

As for John Milhiser, President Trump nominated him for the US Attorney for the Central District of Illinois. Wright described Milhiser as a fantastic leader and wished him the best.
