Police find tampered Halloween candy

SHERMAN, Ill. (WAND) - The Sherman Police Department are warning community members about a metal object found in a child Halloween candy Wednesday night.

According to police, they received a report of a metal object found in a child's candy. Police say this is the first and only report they have received. They say the metal object was found in a single package of a "Reese's Stuffed with Pieces."

No injuries were reported from the incident.

Investigators say they aren't sure if the metal object came from a store-bought razor someone placed in it or a possible factory production issue. Both options are possible.

Police say they went to a drug store and purchased packets of razors, the compared them to the metal piece found in the candy. They noticed those pieces were similar to what was in the Reese's.

To find out if the problem potentially came from the factory, they're sending the metal piece to The Hershey Company, where leaders will determine if it came from their end.

Police are asking parents to be vigilant and continue to check their children's candy. Police say, if you find a piece of tampered candy you should report it to the local Police Department.
