SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND)- The SIU Center for Family Medicine is opening a new clinic at the Sangamon County Public Health Department on South Grand Avenue.
Officials are holding a ribbon-cutting Thursday afternoon for the new clinic they hope will help serve more than 25,000 low-income people in Sangamon County who do not have access to medical care.
“Most of the individuals and families served by the public health department are also those most in need and most at risk,” said Sangamon County Board Chairman Andy Van Meter. “By partnering with SIU, we can provide both preventive care and primary care under one roof. This will greatly expand health care access to those most in need.”
The new clinic offers primary and preventative care services, acute services, STI clinics, physicals, immunizations and referral agreements with other providers. Patients who qualify can also receive other services like financial and medical-legal counseling.
