ILLINOIS (WAND) – A sandwich available in Chicago was labeled a “must-try” food in Illinois.

The Daily Meal ranked the best food in each state, and in Illinois decided on Chicago-area chain Al’s #1 Italian Beef as the chain that serves the winner. The restaurant’s roast beef sandwich, which is served using thinly-sliced meat on Italian bread, can be dipped in a “gravy” sauce.

The publication called the sandwich the “definitive” Italian beef sandwich in Illinois.

Al’s has 11 Chicago stores and locations in Texas, Las Vegas and California. The business first opened as a food stand in 1939.
