Woman convicted of dumping hot beans over elderly roommate's head

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A Decatur woman has been convicted of dumping hot beans over an elderly roommate's head and later fighting jail staff after being caught trying to make her own underwear in her jail cell.

43-year-old Kikia Fullenwider was sentenced to 24 months probation.

If she does not stay on mental health treatment medications and if she violates her probation, she could face up to 28 years in prison.

Fullenwider pleaded guilty to aggravated domestic battery in the beans attack.

She was also given 180 days in jail, but has credit for all 180 days already served.

Fullenwider dumped a pot of hot beans on the head of an 80-year-old man who was her roommate on Dec. 28.

The victim suffered second-degree burns. Police said she was mad over the man spending too long on the phone.

While being held in the Macon County Jail on that charge, Fullenwider attacked a female guard on April 18 and ripped out a chunk of her hair.

Officials said she had been hoarding jail-issued disposable light cloth underwear and was trying to refashion it into bras and a bikini version of the underwear.

Fullenwider pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated battery to a peace officer and was sentenced to 24 months probation.

Fullenwider was deemed mentally unfit to stand trial in May, but was ruled competent after receiving treatment and medications.
