1 dead, more than 100 sick from Salmonella in turkey

(WAND) - One person is dead and more than 100 were sickened in a Salmonella outbreak linked to raw turkey.

The CDC said the strain of Salmonella has been found in a variety of turkey products, including ground turkey and turkey patties.

The outbreak has been going on for a year, and more than 60 people have been hospitalized.

The person who died was from California.

Salmonella has also been found in raw turkey pet food and live turkeys, indicating it might be widespread in the turkey industry.

Cooking a turkey thoroughly will destroy Salmonella.
