URBANA, Ill. (WAND)- The Carle Foundation Auxiliary Guest House is getting a series of upgrades thanks to donations from Carle employees.
The building houses people whose children or other loved ones are receiving care at the hospital.
“I didn’t have to think where I was going to stay that night, and I didn’t have to think about long-term plans, because in that moment, all you can think about is your baby,” said past-guest Avoree Gore.
The upgrades include fresh paint, new lighting, landscaping and additional security features. More than $400,000 of employee donations are paying for the work.
“We ask the employees: what do we want to fund based on the mission of Carle, the greatest need at Carle, and how we can make an impact,” said Lesa Brandt of Carle Philanthropy.
The guest house is funded by charitable donations. Brandt said the work is expected to wrap up in January.
