CWLP warns of consumer scam

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – City Water, Light and Power is now warning customers that scammers are once again posing as the utility to cheat them out of their money.

In a post on Facebook Friday, CWLP wrote the scammers call their targets and claim to be with the utility. They then ask for money, claiming refusing to pay will result in their power being shut off.

If you get a phone call like this, CWLP said you should hang up your phone immediately. Also, do not give out any personal information over the phone or through text or email if anyone claiming to be from CWLP asks you to do so.

If you’re unsure a caller is actually from CWLP, you’re asked to hang up and call CWLP Customer Service at 789-2030. You can also go to to check your account’s status.
