CWLP kicks off Project RELIEF


SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - City Water, Light and Power customers needing help paying their bills will be able to apply for assistance during the winter months. 

Project RELIEF will help CWLP customers this winter in their 34th year.

The program raised around $20,000 a year. Money comes from donations and from customers who add $1 or more to their bill as well as employee payroll contributions. 

To qualify for the program; a customer must have:
1.    a total household income for the previous 90 days of no more than 150%  of the Federal Poverty Guidelines;
2.    a past-due CWLP bill;
3.    not received Project RELIEF assistance in 2017-2018 program season;
4.    exhausted all assistance resources including the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), 535-3120. (Customers who have only water service from CWLP do not need to apply to LIHEAP first); and
5.    the ability to cover a portion of their past-due bill, as required.
