Law enforcement agencies across central Illinois help with tornado efforts

WILLIAMSVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - The Williamsville and Spaulding Police Departments are working to collect items and monetary donations for the victims of tornado in Taylorville.

Chief Richard Shawn Edwards explains, he met with the Williamsville mayor to set up a donation drive. Chief Edwards says it's important for them to step up and help because they were in the situation nearly 10 years ago.

"Our community was hit in 2009. We got to see first hand and how much stress this puts on a village," explains Chief Edwards.

Both Departments will be collecting water, personal hygiene items, new blankets, batteries, flashlights, new clothes, non-perishable food items and monetary donations. All donations can be taken to the Williamsville Village Hall until Thursday at 3 p.m.
