Student arrested for making verbal threat


CHARLESTON, Ill. (WAND) - School officials at Charleston High School and Charleston Police are looking into a threat made against the school.

On Monday morning, school officials became aware of a threat made by a person towards the safety of several students. Detectives from the Charleston Police Department, along with the Charleston High School Administration investigated the threat.

Police confronted and arrested a 17 year old student. According to officers, the student had no weapons on them. The treat has been deemed only verbal and there is no evidence to suggest the student had any real thoughts or harming any other students at staff at Charleston High School, according to police.

The investigation into the matter resulted in the arrest of the juvenile suspect on a class 4 felony charge of Disorderly Conduct. He was later released to the custody of his mother.
