Taylorville gives update on EF-3 tornado clean up efforts


TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - Taylorville is working to organize volunteers who are looking to help clean up damage and assist victims of the EF-3 tornado.

At least 23 tornadoes touched down in Illinois over the weekend.

Gov. Bruce Rauner declared Christian County a state disaster area. There were three tornadoes in Christian County, including the EF-3 that tore through Taylorville. 

Six people in Taylorville were left in critical condition after the storm.

Around 15 businesses were damaged, but all are back up and running now.

A resource center and shelter will be set up on S. Houston this weekend. The area will serve as a warming center and people will be able to receive food donations there.

A volunteer processing center will be open Wednesday through Sunday in the Taylorville Township Building at 1620 W. Spresser St. Groups from all over the state are planning to help. The hours for the volunteer center are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
