5 cases of Hepatitis A recently diagnosed


SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Five cases of Hepatitis A have recently been diagnosed in east-central Illinois in November.

There are 70 cases reported on average in Illinois each year.

69 cases have been reported so far this year.

Hepatitis A is an infection that can cause liver damage. It is passed from one person to another through food, water, drug use, and sex.

It is preventable with a vaccine.

Symptoms include fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dark urine, clay colored bowel movements, joint pain, and jaundice.
