Special prosecutor requested to settle Macon County sheriff's race

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Macon County State's Attorney Jay Scott has called for a Special Prosecutor for advice on the Macon County Sheriff race.

Jay Scott filed the paperwork on Tuesday to have the State's Attorney appoint the prosecutor to represent Macon County since it could be a conflict of interest for Scott's office.

Jim Root has asked for a full recount in the Macon County sheriff election after discovering two uncounted ballots in his favor.

Brown was declared winner of the election at 19,655 votes to 19,654 votes when all precincts had reported results. Root then asked for a discovery recount, in which Macon County Clerk Steve Bean and his staff closely examined a selection of precincts. The two ballots were discovered in that process, which finished on Friday night.

In the end it will be up to the court to decided to change the results of the election.
