TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WAND)- City officials are again warning of out-of-town contractors seeking business in the community after Saturday’s tornado.
In a social media post Wednesday, the City Clerk’s Office said many outside companies are canvassing the community. They encouraged homeowners to be wary of businesses asking them to sign contracts and pay for services upfront.
The post also encourages homeowners to check with the City Clerk’s office, the City Police Department or the mayor before signing contracts or paying for services unless those services are provided by a company the homeowner knows.
“We encourage everyone to go local with the contractors, and if they do have a problem or a question with a contract, local attorney Skip DePaepe has offered his services free of charge,” Mayor Bruce Barry said in a press briefing earlier this week.
