RANTOUL, Ill. (WAND) – An apartment fire completely destroyed a Rantoul apartment, firefighters say.

Fire Chief Ken Waters told WAND-TV the fire “gutted” an apartment in the 1300 block of Harmon Drive Friday. Rantoul’s fire department was joined by automatic aid from the Thomasboro and Gifford departments, with the fire response starting at around 3:45 p.m.

The fire also damaged attic space in the same destroyed unit. The apartment was part of a four-unit complex.

Crews say the fire displaced two families in apartments next to the one that caught fire. Waters says he contacted the American Red Cross to help them find temporary housing.

There were no injuries in the fire.
