Champaign City Council announces delay in development of shopping center
Champaign City Council members decide to delay any action on re-developing the country fair shopping center.
The city has been studying the area to see what improvements could be made. Alderman Tom Bruno says the consensus at Tuesday night's study session was that it's an important part of town that needs to be re-developed but city officials need to hear more from the property owners before they move forward.
Bruno says the shopping center was built in the 1950's. The parking lot is deteriorating and many stores sit empty. But the city is willing to help the property owners make updates.
