Several central Illinois communities declare snow emergency

The city of Decatur established its emergency snow routes effective at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday morning along with several other area communities.

For Decatur, that means vehicles have six hours before they're removed from designated snow routes.

Snow routes were activated in Champaign also. The village of St. Joe and Monticello declared snow emergencies.

The sidewalk snow and ice removal requirements are now in effect in downtown and campus town areas of Champaign. Property owners have 48 hours to clear the sidewalks, or face a bill from the city.
