Former Clinton police officer faces felony charges

Accusations against a former central Illinois police officer send shockwaves throughout one community.

Former Clinton police officer Jerry Bristow faces eight felony charges. Court records show Bristow admitted to stealing $1,500 dollars and six guns from the evidence vault and pawning them to pay off debt.

Bristow is out on bond. He resigned from the department in early January before facing any accusations. The prosecutor's office says, in this case, charges could only stem from incidents within the past three years. If convicted, the 55-year-old could pay a couple of hundred thousand dollars in fines and spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Bristow spent nearly three decades with the police department, including working in Clinton schools and overseeing evidence.
