Blagojevich plans appearance at impeachment trial Thursday
Governor Blagojevich is expected to make an appearance Thursday at his impeachment trial.
Senate President John Cullerton said Wednesday Blagojevich asked to make a statement at the trial. Cullerton says Blagojevich intends to make a closing argument, not to testify or to submit to cross-examination. The governor boycotted the rest of the trial and presented no defense. He denies wrongdoing and calls the trial unfair.
After just three days of testimony, the prosecution rested Wednesday. David Ellis is scheduled to make his closing arguments Thursday morning. Senators could vote on whether to remove Blagojevich on Thursday afternoon.
Blagojevich is accused of abusing his power. The charges include trying to auction off a Senate seat, defying legislative decisions and evading state hiring laws.
