Family and friends say goodbye to 106th Aviation Regiment


Hundreds of families and friends from across Illinois said farewell to members of a National Guard unit headed for active duty overseas.

Soldiers with the 106th aviation regiment flew out of Decatur airport Monday morning. A mobilization ceremony was held Saturday at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Decatur.

More than 80 soldiers will transport personnel and equipment with Blackhawk helicopters in Iraq. The soldiers are at Fort Sill, Oklahoma for pre-mobilization training.
