City of Danville cuts staff to save money

The City of Danville makes staffing cutbacks.

At least 25 city workers will be let go in an effort to trim $1.5 million from the budget. Workers were notified Monday.

Mayor Scott Eisenhauer says without the cuts, citizens would be forced to pay higher taxes.

"The only way when it was all said and done that expenditures would both be equal is to cut personnel that are currently within our city employment ranks," said Eisenhauer.

The final budget draft and a complete list of jobs being cut will be presented at the Danville City Council meeting Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at the municipal building. The city has not yet made public which departments will see job cuts.
