Springfield City Council approves change in marijuana ordinance
Penalties are eased for people caught with a small amount of marijuana in Springfield.
The city council approved a change letting some offenses like having less than two and a half grams of the drug to be handled as an ordinance violation. This means the person might not face arrest but rather be given a $300 fine.
The Sangamon County State's Attorney says this will help their case load. They handle anywhere from 2,000 to 3,000 misdemeanor cases a year.
