The water situation in the Sangamon County village of Pawnee went from bad to worse but is back under control.
Village leaders issued a boil order because of a leak in the drinking water supply line. The village's 300,000 gallon water tower was dry and water was cut off completely.
Schools were also dismissed at noon due to the problem. Residents are being supplied with bottled water at the Pawnee Fire Station.
The Otter Lake Water Commission, which supplies Pawnee's water, says workers fixed the problem just before noon. A fracture in a 10 inch water main buried some ten feet under the frontage road at Route 104 and Interstate 55 caused the problem.
Pawnee residents remain under a boil order until further notice.
