After nearly three months, city leaders are confident they can re-open part of Neil Street in downtown Champaign.
Champaign Deputy City Manager Craig Rost says the city wants to have one lane of north Neil Street open by February 13th. Contractors for the demolition of the buildings damaged by fire agreed to open the east lane by the end of the day next Friday.
The demolition project is expected to be completed by February 27th returning regular traffic flow on Church and Neil streets.
The Metro Building and law office next door on north Neil Street were deemed structurally unstable after a November fire.
