A Taylorville woman will spend 30 months in federal prison for embezzling about $750,000 from the state.
The U.S. Attorney's office says that's the sentence 54-year-old, Debra Kirby received Monday. She was a former senior accountant for the Illinois State Treasurer's office. Kirby begins serving her time April 1st.
She must also pay more than $260,000 in restitution, the amount she pocketed, to the treasurer's office.
State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias says safeguards are now in place to better protect against those kinds of crimes in the future.
