Multiple ideas presented to balance Springfield budget at meeting

Posted:

At Wednesday night's council meeting members discussed ways to bring more revenue into the city in order to balance the $12.5-million budget shortfall.

Both a proposed telecommunications tax and a tax on sales of packaged liquor were brought up as a way to keep Springfield's libraries open. Some aldermen feel increasing taxes is necessary.

The Springfield City Council will meet again next Tuesday.
