Large crowd celebrates Abe's 200th birthday at Lincoln Tomb
Thursday was the 75th anniversary for the National American Legion pilgrimage to the tomb at Oak Ridge cemetery in Springfield.
Governor Pat Quinn took part in a wreath laying ceremony during the event that also included patriotic music. Those who have visited the tomb on Lincoln's birthday in past years were surprised at the crowd that turned out for this year's event.
"The crowd was 100 percent bigger," said Ralph Tolan of the Indiana American Legion. "There was hardly any room to move in the tomb area."
Members of American Legion posts from around the country came to Springfield for today's pilgrimage.
