Mattoon accepting bids for renovation of train station
The city of Mattoon will start accepting bids Friday afternoon for the renovation of the city's train station.
Bids for work open at 2:00 p.m. at city hall. With federal and state transportation funds and grant money, on top of what the city's paying, the station is getting a much needed facelift.
Renovations include a new elevator and new accessible entrance, as well as several updates. The historic depot is still an active Amtrak station that serves six trains a day with about 85 passengers a day.
After bids are accepted, the city hopes work on the station will start by the end of March.
