Bement man shot by Decatur police officer


Decatur police say that an officer was involved in a shooting incident in the area of the Jasper trailer park around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

A 34-year-old Bement man was hurt and taken to Decatur Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Carle Clinic in Champaign. He's reported to be in critical condition.

Investigators say the shooting happened after a short vehicle pursuit near the trailer park. Detectives are currently investigating the incident by collecting evidence at the scene and conducting interviews.

By department policy, the involved third shift patrol officer is being re-assigned to administrative duties until the investigation is complete.
