A hero returned home today, and family and friends gathered at Coles County Memorial Airport in Mattoon, Illinois to honor Jared Southworth's patriotism.
Southworth was killed in action Feburary 8th, 2009 in Afghanistan. The Army National Guardsman leaves behind a wife and four children. Southworth was deployed to Afghanistan just two months ago.
Southworth also served as a police officer in his home town of Oakland, Illinois. His mother says her son's heroism and charismatic personality will not be forgotten. Vistation will be Saturday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Standard Funeral Home in Oakland. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Oakland High School gym.
