Sangamon and Menard Counties Crime Stoppers have a new weapon to fight crime
It's a specially painted dumpster placed in neighborhoods where police suspect drug activity. The dumpster program is intended to create a visible reminder to those involved in the drug trade that they're being watched.
As information is called in to police by neighbors. Narcotics officers will send letters to the registered owners of vehicles seen at suspected drug houses, telling them the house is under investigation.
Police hope this new dumpster program will deter drug users from using other peoples' vehicles to buy narcotics.
