Contaminated food made 20 students sick at a military academy
Public health officials now say contaminated food made 20 students sick last weekend at an eastern Illinois military academy.
Champaign County Public Health Department Administrator Julie Pryde says an inspection of the kitchen and dining room at Lincoln's Challenge Academy in Rantoul turned up eight serious health violations. She says the violations included vomit on a dining room floor.
Pryde says the inspection found more problems than at any foodservice establishment inspected in the county since 1993.
Academy director Peter Thomas says the school has taken steps to improve training for food-service employees. 19 students at the academy for high school dropouts and one staff member became ill Sunday.
